Automating Multiple Excel Workbooks

Hi,

I might not be the first person who is asking this question. However, here is my question "I have total 16 Excel Workbooks and out of these 16 Workbooks I copy and paste data from 2 workbooks to other 3 workbooks and remaining 14 workbooks I check the data Data in SQL Database and then filter them and then copy paste the data to the above mentioned 3 workbooks."

So, I first tried to use macros but its does not work properly and the data count is huge and i have lot of parameters because of which it does not work properly. Is there any other way with which I can sort and automate the process?

I hope my question is making sense. Please let me know if you require any more information for the same.

Excel Power View maps and Bing connectivity

Hi

I recently designed an Excel power view dashboard on my work computer. The dcomputer currently has office 365. On the dashboard was a map view of some location data which looks very impactful. I recently had  a client visit our offices and put the dashboard on to my company laptop (also on office 365) and linked to the internet via WiFi. When opening the dashboard the map element of the dashboard doesn't work. Whilst it is still plotting the points it does not display the actual map and brings an error of Bing error: map tiles not found. A connection to Bing could not be established. Any ideas why this might be the case?

Thanks

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to store and archive email boxes of ex-workers. We have workers that no longer with in the company but their emails are very valuable to us, and it would be really great if it was possible to easily share certain folders or even whole mailbox with people in the company. Right now I am trying to use Shared folders for this purpose however, with shared folders I am unable to have folder delegation (sub folders).

Best regards,

Aleksei.

Excel Interactive View - Can you include a hyperlink?

$

Having created an Excel Interactive View (EIV), all I need now is to add hyperlinks to it.

My site currently has in excess 250 pages and will grow to 1000+ pages of detailed information. With EIV, the search enables the 'user' to find the pages they want to view without trawling my site (not that it's a big problem). But my thought was that if they used EIV, found what they needed and clicked on a hyperlink, my site would be easier to use, find info and less busy looking. I could in theory get away with only showing a few pages.

BUT! How do you add Hyperlinks to an EIV. The link doesn't appear after you've created the excel workbook and converted it into an EIV.

Anyone?

Excel 2013 - Formula to change cell color based upon multiple criteria

$

Hi

I have been looking into creating a simple formula that I can apply to a column in Excel.  The basic functionality that I am trying to create is to shade a cell depending upon the values of two or more cells on the same work sheet.

An example is as follows;

If cell A1 contains the text "1 Hour" and cell B1 contains the text "No" then cell A1 should be filled with the colour red.

If cell A1 contains the text "1 Hour" and cell B1 contains the text "Yes" then cell A1 should be filled with the colour amber.

IF cell A1 contains the text "30 Minutes" and cell B1 contains the text "No" then Cell A1 should be filled with the colour green.  In the case of the value in A1 being 30 Minutes there is no option to have B1 as anything but No.

Ideally I would like to do this via a formula that the in-built conditional formatting tool will accept since I am really new to VBA.  I can use conditional formatting to do this for a single cell value in A1, but I can't figure out how to work this when I introduce variables in both A1 and B1.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Is it possible to still hide Workbooks from the Windows Taskbar in Excel 2013

$

Because of the introduction of the SDI in Excel 2013 it is no longer possible to select the option to NOT display workbooks in the Taskbar.

This causes a major problem with Excel Applications written in VB or VBA which have multiple workbooks open for various reasons but only wanting the user to have access to one workbook at a time.

Is it possible to still hide these workbooks from the taskbar?

I did request in beta to still have the Application.ShowWindowsInTaskbar still available via VBA, switching to FALSE  for the life of the Excel instant...but that would have been too easy...

Thanks in advance for any help

Excel Does Not Prompt For Password

$

Hi.  I have an xlsm file that I've added a password to open and saved it to a networked drive using Excel 2010.  Some users try to open the file using Excel 2007 (both Windows XP and Window 7) but it doesn't prompt them for the password and nothing opens but a blank Excel with no worksheet.  Other users with Excel 2007 and the same operating systems can open the file as expected.  I don't have another user with Excel 2010 to test if they can open the file.  We have two identical laptops bought at the same time with the same Windows 7 setup.  MS Office 2007 was installed on both of them.  One of them can open the Excel file in question and the other cannot.  It has nothing to do with macro security settings because I've disabled it and the file does not open.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to get this working correctly?

problem with solver DLL load and Excel 2010

$

Since upgrading from Office 2007 to Office 2010 we've started to experience a problem with the solver addin when our own analytics addins is also loaded. I have found a solution, but I think it may highlight a problem with the latest version of the solver addin for Excel 2010.

Firstly, to describe the problem - the solver addin seems to load normally when Excel 2010 starts up, however when a "Solve" is performed we are seeing a "File not found: Solver32.dll" error at the final "Keep Solver Solution" stage. This only happens our own analytics addin is loaded. We've been careful to make sure that our own addin does not change the working directory and also that it has been built against the correct Excel 2010 SDK libraries. We do not see this error with any other versions of Excel running on the same PC or any other environment.

After some searching we found other people were having similar problems and after a bit more probing I found a solution that works - but that I'm not very happy with.

If I copy the Solver32.dll from:

  C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\Library\SOLVER
    (where it was installed)

into :

  C:\Windows\SysWOW64
(where Windows 7 keeps its 32 bit system DLLs)

then the problem goes away.

This seems to indicate that somehow Office 2010 has a problem that causes it to search in the wrong folder for the Solver32.dll when another addin is loaded in between the original Solver32.XLAM at start up and the use of the Solver in the sheet (which eventually requires this DLL to be loaded). Oddly, this only happens after a solution is found and "Keep Solver Solution" is selected - and I'm not sure why it's not looking for Solver32.dll any earlier.

This is not a problem with any earlier versions of Excel and I suspect is a bug in the Office14/LIBRARY/SOLVER implementation. Is there any way to get this followed up?

Thanks,

Andy

How do I change the preferences to have the hyperlink to open only one IE window instead of opening two IE windows with the same information?

I am having consistent issues opening .XLSX files. The error I get is "We found a problem with some content in filename.xlsx. Do you want us to try to recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.

If I open the file in Google Sheets, it loads fine. For whatever reason, Excel can't handle it.

Downloading multiple files at once from Sharepoint

Dear All,

I would like some assistance with downloading multiple files from a Sharepoint site at one time.

Environment:

My local machine is running Windows 7 with Office 2010.  I am not sure what version of Sharepoint the server is running.

Task:

I am given a list of 10 to 150 files (.PDF Drawings) to download from a sharepoint server.

Current Method:

I go to the file folder(accessed via IE) on the share point site.  Under 'Activities' I export to Excel a list of all the files in that folder (about 35,000 records).  The first column of this spreadsheet is a hyperlink to the file on the sharepoint.  Using Control-F I find one record at a time.  I click the hyperlink with opens that specific file in IE.  I then have to save that file to a folder.  I repeat this 10-150 times to have a folder with only the specific drawings I need.

Question:

Is there a way to download my list of multiple files all in one go?

Thank you,

Jim

Indirect command and getpivotdata

$

In Excel 2010 I have a worksheet that uses data from monthly Pivot Tables in different externel Excel files (cumulating sales per month) using GetPivotData and I want to use the INDIRECT command to adress variabel filenames changing monthly to a higher number (1 to 12). The problem is in getting data from subtotals in the Pivot Table.

When I get the data directly from the Pivot Table there is no problem and I get the correct data, by using the following command  (in fact I use a Dutch version but I translated these to the English equivalents):

=GetPivotData("Sum of Deposits";'C:\Data\User\Group\Company\2014\Invoicehistory\[Invoicing 2014-10.xlsx]PivotTable'!$A$3;"Month";2)

"Month" is the columnlabel and the number 2 stands for monthnumber 2 (e.g. February)

When I try to get the same data by using the INDIRECT command there is a problem because of the quotation marks that are needed to define te columnlabel "month". With the INDIRECT command Quotation marks are used for building the text string to define the path.

Therefore the command:

=GetPivotData("Sum of Deposits";INDIRECT("'C:\Data\User\Group\Company\2014\Invoicehistory\[Invoicing 2014-"&TEXT(CurrentWorksheet!$B$2;"00")&".xlsx]PivotTable'!$A$3;"month";2"))

is not possible.

I have tried to trick Excel bij typing "month" in cell B12 and referring to that cell using the CHOOSE command and also using the CONCATENATE command, but that was no succes.

Can you help me with this problem?

SQL-Excel Data Connection: How to update only one row in Excel to the last row in a continuously updated SQL Table?

$

Hello Experts,

I am using excel to display information from an SQL database. I want to know how the data from SQL database would only update one row in Excel only. I might have worded this question funny. Let me explain this more clearly.

For example, below is the SQL table:

TimestampDegree Value
11/10/2014 8:45:41 0.48
11/10/2014 8:45:42 0.68
11/10/2014 8:45:43 0.78
11/10/2014 8:45:44 0.96

A device (a data logger)  is continuously push data to the SQL server base on what it is sensing.

In Excel, I only want to display the latest timestamp and the degree value every time I click refresh or automated refreshing occurs.

Ideal Result in Excel:

TimestampDegree Value
11/10/2014 8:45:44 0.96

Is there a way to do this using Excel Function and not through VBA/Macro?

Much appreciated!

Pivot table blue screen

$

My scenario is that I have three brand new towers at my business, all HP Compaq Pro 6300 MT, with Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1. When I create a pivot table and start filling in the checkboxes to the right of the workbook, it immediately displays a blue screen error and restarts the system.

This happens with only very large Excel spreadsheets, but works properly on every other model computer at my business.  I've tried repairing, running Excel in safe mode, all available Windows updates are installed, all add-ins are disabled, I've removed the antivirus, I've rolled back the graphics and chipset drivers...I'm really at a loss right now. I contacted HP support and they told me to contact Microsoft.  I've even gone as far as trying a new mouse and keyboard.  Every time the blue screen creates a dump file it references a different driver.  Here's the latest.

Bug check string: REFERENCE_BY_POINTER

Bug check code: 0x00000018

Caused by driver: rdprefmp.sys

Caused by address: rdprefmp.sys+56abb60

Crash address: ntoskrnl.exe+75c40

The driver is the RDP Reflector Driver Miniport, but I can't disable that because RDP is necessary for employees.

Please help.
