Microsoft Excel has stopped working--64-bit Windows 7, 64-bit Excel 2010

This is a known issue that is in the recently closed Office 2010 beta archive here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/office2010/thread/ed9a15ee-97cf-4ecd-b579-b1f5cfaa22da?lc=1033&prof=required&ppud=4

When trying to open a .xlsm or .xlsb file that contains a macro (not auto-executing), Excel returns the message "Microsoft Excel has stopped working"; the file does not open and eventually Excel shuts down after trying to recover.

Complicating the issue: this does not happen 100% of the time; but it happens most of the time.  You might get a "repaired" version open.  Or sometimes, it just opens normally.  If you get the workbook open and delete all the macros, save it and try to reopen you get the same error message (almost all of the time).  It seems to "remember" that it once had a macro.

One workaround I found is if you finally get the file open again, copy all the data and formulas to another "fresh" workbook, leaving the macros behind.  Save the new workbook and it opens and closes henceforth uneventfully.

I believe this is an only an issue with 64-bit Excel.  I ran macros in these same files for a long time in Excel 2007 with no problem.

I'm hoping someone on this board knows something about a fix for this apparent bug.
