issue with missing DSNs

Hopefully I am in the right forum. I have been given an excel (2010) workbook to reverse engineer into a SSRS report. No problems with this task technically, I was able to look at the connections in the workbook, find the query and relevant database.

Out of curiosity though, when I click on Data > from other sources > from MS query, I can see a list of DSNs with an asterisk after them that I am unable to delete. Furthermore, when I click on the Options button and uncheck the 'Include Registry DSNs(...)' option, the list empties.

This itself doesnt confuse me. The actual problem is when I use regedit to goto HKLM/Software/ODBC, none of these connections exist.

Can someone help me find my elusive 'registry' DSNs?

Thanks in advance
