Powerpivot data connection will not save the password

I'm trying to create a Powerpivot workbook with data that users can refresh themselves before analysis.  We don't have Powerpivot data refresh in Sharepoint active, so I can't make use of that service.

When I create a Powerpivot data connection to SQL server using SQL Server Authentication (unchanging read-only username and password), and checking the box to save the password, the connection works fine for refreshing the data as long as I leave the workbook open.

If I close the file and re-open it, the password is gone from the data connection and the user cannot refresh the data.

I've tried configuring the data connection with the SQL native client provider and the SQL OLEDB provider and I see exactly the same results.

The connection string gets built with Persist Security Info=True and the Password shows up as hidden text (dots).  It stays this way through refreshes as long as the workbook is open.  However, once I close the file and re-open it, the connection string no longer has the Password parameter listed at all, not even as hidden text.  Persist Security Info is still there and set to True.  As might be expected, the connection string does not have the information needed to access the SQL Server instance.

This type of connection string using SQL Server Authentication still works fine with the password saved when used directly as an Excel data connection, or when used as a data source in Reporting Services.  It's only Powerpivot where the password gets blown away.

Is there a workaround for this issue?


Excel - worksheet freeze and high cpu usage

Hi. I have Office 365 installed and sometimes worksheets and ribbon get freezed. The weird thing is that workbook works, because I can close it. When it happens the Excel process makes a huge cpu usage. Any idea why this is happening?

Charts is gone when using Excel 2013

Recently I countered a stupid problem. When I open my excel files .xlsx, all the charts are gone. After I recreated the charts again, then after a few days, it started to have the same problem again. 

I am not sure what had gone wrong with that, but it give me a sense of insecure of using microsoft Excel.

I can tell you that I am using an official Excel 2013 from Microsoft.

Hope Microsoft owes me an answer to my problem.

Change cell A1 font Bold Italic Red based on cells B1:S1

I am using MS Office Pro 2016.  I need to change the font of cell A1 to Bold Italic Red if any cell in B1 to S1 is greater than 100%.  I cannot seem to figure out how to do this and would greatly appreciate any help.

How to hide a slicer?

Hi,

I want to be able to totally hide the slicers in my sheet. The idea is that the user can select the slicer items they want to see and then hide the slicers afterwards in order to be able to view a clean final report.

I don't want to hide items in the slicer, I actually want to hide the slicer box. I have tried grouping rows and also hiding them and also playing around with the Position settings (i.e. Move but don't size with cells... and others), but the Slicers just stay on the sheet and get pushed down.

I could potentially set the height of the slicer to 0 height in VBA using the below code, but I'm wondering if I'm missing an easy option in Excel.

Dim PT1 As PivotTable
Dim slc1 As Slicer

    Set PT1 = Sheets("ALL").PivotTables("PVT_POS_BRANCH") '(1)
    Set slc1 = PT1.Slicers("POS_CT") '(1)
    slc1.Height = 100
I could also move the Slicers to another sheet, but this is not ideal as I want the user to see the results refresh instantly, rather than switching between sheets.

Cut Paste Insert Option not working in MS Excel

Hi, I am using MS Office 2007 on windows XP professional Version 2002 service pack 3. 

We have a Volume license for this in my group company.

From the last few days, i am facing a peculiar problem in my MS Excel 2007

My Cut Paste Insert option is not working and coming on grey color, if i am selecting the whole row or column.

Please help me to come out of this issue.

Unable to open Excel .xlsx file from Outlook 2007

A users reports that an email recipient outside of our network, as well as another user within our network, cannot open an .xlsx file attachment she is sending. The sender receives the same error when trying to open the file from her sent email in Outlook 2007. The error being reported is:

"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\PFKE2LL6\<filename> could not be found.

I'm able to open the file fine with no error - both from gmail and Outlook. I've had them clear out their C:\TEMP directory and delete their IE cache. The file does open properly directly from the network with no error for all users.

Power View Error HRESULT E-FAIL

Hello,

I have MS Office Professional Plus 2016. I wanted to check Power View and I added it in. When I try to use it I get the error:

"Error HRESULT E-FAILhas been returned from a call to a COM component."

I'm on a PC with Windows 10 Pro. Any ideas why Power View is not working? Thank you in advance for any help.


3D Maps

Ok, hopefully someone out in the ether can help me with 3D Maps.  I have a 2016 Office 365 Business subscription and have learned that 3D Maps does not work in the version of Excel that comes with this subscription.  Microsoft informed me that I would need to purchase the 2016 Excel Standalone subscription to have access to the full array of Excel components.  So, I purchased, downloaded and successfully installed it, but still to no avail.  I've tried uninstalling Office 365 and running only the Standalone version of Excel on my computer, but still no luck.  Every time I attempt to open 3D Maps I get the following error message:

3D Maps encountered an error while contacting Microsoft Bing

mapping services. Functionality may be limited. (Status Code: 2).

I know the product works because it had properly worked once on my Office 365, but hasn't since...that's when I learned that 3D Maps works intermittently on Office 365, but no there are no guarantees, thus the need for the Standalone version of Excel.  I really wish I could make this tool work because it's amazing...can anyone help???

Error on Microsoft Word 'Open' - [Compile error in hidden module: 'link'...]

Hello. I have a Mac, running OS X El Capitan, 10.11.6. 

Microsoft Word for Mac, Version 15.25 (160.817). Product ID: 02985-010-000001.

I'm receiving the following Error when I click the button to 'Open' WORD. 

Compile error in hidden module: 'link'. This error commonly occurs when <g class="gr_ gr_351 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="351" id="351">code</g> is incompatible with the version, platform, orarchitecture of this application.

The dialog box gives no buttons to push or places to go for 'help,' other than an OK button. 

I'm also receiving the same error when I click to end the application.

Please let me know what I can do. Thank you!

Excel encountered an error while saving and Macro settings disabled

1) of late, evertime i try to save a macro enabled workbook I receive the error "Errors were detected while saving the workbook. To make repairs and save , click continue or cancel. Once it asks to save again, it says, excel encountered errors whil saving. However it was able to minimally save to a temp location..

2) I am unable to create any macro ( the " create " button in the Developer - > Macro window is disabled" )

even if i record a macro , its saved as "Personal.xlsb!Macro1" and if I click on Edit , i am unable to do so

Error : Cannot edit a macro on a hidden workbook.unhide the workbook using the Unhide command

This is a brand new excel workbook hence has no hidden sheets

3) I tried going to trust center cettings -  > Macro settings to check if macros are enabled or disabled

and i found that all 4 settings are disabled( Greyed out ) . Hence unable to change any setting

I think all 3 issues are related and rooted from one cause. Can you help me find how to fix this..

Lost entire worksheet - now grey window

While editing a worksheet called Walk Index.xlsm (one of two in the Excel 365 workbook) I suddenly found myself looking at this window:

Not sure what step it was that caused it. Tried lots of things, including repeated Undos, Unhiding everything I could, etc. Also found the folder containing autosaves but not only did I have no success opening a recent backup but all the backups vanished! Bizarre...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated please, before I use yesterday's backup and start redoing today's editing.

Get & Transform - initialization of datasource failed

Hello,

when I use Get & Transform in Excel 2016 Standard SPLA, I´m able to create query, see the preview, but when I'm finishing the process and would like to get the data to cells, Excel show me error message "initialization of data source failed, ..." - I've tried more sources from limited commands in Get & Transform in Standard suite including simple link to Excel file in same folder... everything ends with error... in cells is shown only few rows (<10)

When I do all this in Excel 2016 Professional Plus, everything is OK, no errors, result 250000 rows inserted in cells rather quickly...

I'm using Windows Server 2012 R2 std 64b CZE, normal file system...

Is Get & Transform generally usable in Standard version? What are conditions for use and what can be cause of initialization error?

Excel 2010 image ghosting after saving as pdf

I encountered an issue when I tried to save an excel document as a pdf. The document is created but after the file is save and I return to my original document to continue on, their is an overlap of the original excel document with duplicate document only offset lower by about a dozen lines.  If I page down and then page up the secondary image goes away. I have updated my office, tried changing my pdf viewer from Adobe DC back to MS Reader, Updated my video card driver, replaced my ATI video card with a Nvidia graphics card. I tried starting Excel in safe mode, disabled open file after publishing. Do you have any other suggestions?

Cannot print excel, word is ok

Hi all.

I have a problem with excel, I found in Internet but cannot solve. When I try print 3 or more pages or more copy pages, excel report this error and only print first page.

Your file could not be printed due to an error on Canon iR2202 UFRII LT:. There are several possible reasons: 
There may not be enough memory available. Try closing files and programs you aren't using.
If you use a network for printing, there may be a problem with the network connection or the printer driver.
There may be loose cables or a bad connection between your computer and printer.

That error in 3 computers with another OS.

1. Windows 7 with Office 2013 Bussiness

2. Windows 8.1 with Office 2016 Bussiness

3. Windows 10 with Office 2016 Bussiness

Other computers is normal.

Excel embeded a odc hyperlink

I set the hyperlink with a odc file In Excel. However, it shows a popup message, Cannot open this file that a program is not registered in the system. Which configuration may I tune up ? Please give me your advice.

Hey guys,

Please I need your help on this. I have a large table with data on product sales for seven (7) products over 5 years collected monthly from thirty (31) sales centers. I'm creating a Dashboard that can compare sales in two different center at a selected month and year. 
Thus I have used this formula =((LEFT(C2252, 3))&"-"&(RIGHT(D2252,2))) in C2252 to cut&join the month and year in other for it to fit the format in the array (data dump). 
This formula {=INDEX(tcdata,MATCH(1,(D3:D2234=E2252)*(E3:E2234=B2252),0),3)} is the index formula i'm using but getting an error. 
I believe the month and year cut formula in C2252 is causing the error because every time i type the month and year in manually the INDEX function returns a correct answer.

Kindly help.

How to use a cell reference in Field Item pair of GETPIVOTDATA

I have the below formula to get data from a <g class="gr_ gr_17 gr-alert gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="17" id="17">pivottable</g>

GETPIVOTDATA("Sales", $A$4, "[Month].[Month]", "[Month].[Month].&[March]")

Now I'm trying to use this formula by replacing March with C13 and the formula looks like this:

GETPIVOTDATA("Sales", $A$4, "[Month].[Month]", "[Month].[Month].&[C13]")

But it's giving !Ref error. I tried giving &[&C13&] as well. But none are working.

Can someone help me in fixing this?
