Excel repair backup copy?
Open and Repair function of MS Excel corrupt files
Open and Repair function of MS Excel first. It is built-in repair function that helps me fix my corrupt .xlsx files and open them.As it is a built-in feature, it has a drawback. It might not work in severe corruption issues.
If you are looking for a way to repair corrupt .xlsx file, you can try "Open and Repair" function of MS Excel. It is very simple and effective.
But if fails, you may try a third-party Excel Repair Tool to fix corrupt .xlsx file and to recover your data from it.
You may try its free demo version first.

Excel - Pivot Table 'save source data with file' option disabled for OLAP. Workarounds?
Question:
The pivot table option ‘Data’ tab has ‘Save source data with file’ checkbox disabled. According to MS Office support article, "Save source data with <g class="gr_ gr_16 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="16" id="16">file</g>" option is not available for OLAP data source in Excel. What is the best way to address this? Any workaround?
Use case: For these pivot reports that will be stored, shared, emailed etc., we want to make sure that the file is always stored without data to ensure security is always driven off of the cube. These reports have financial data and security is a big priority. Appreciate any feedback

File references breake imiedietly when opening source file.
Hi,
I have following problem with file references in excel 2013.
I have two workbooks they have references to each other. So some cells in workbook1 reference cells in workbook2 and some cells in workbook2 reference cells in workbook1.
All works fine until I try to open both workbooks at the same time. In such case all links are lost immediately and cells start to show "ADR" and "ARG" error tags instead of values that there ware just before opening second file.
My files are located on network drive I have mapped. I have noticed that when I open only one of this files reference paths in cells are indicated as global:
='Z:\KM\projekty\KM belki mostowe\wiadukty FR\[Oszacowania projektu zastepczego_belki FR.xlsm]Przekroj faza 2 (2)'!$B$23
But when both files are opened at the same time reference paths are indicated as local, so they only point the other file's name as both are in the same directory.
What should I do to be able to open one or both files at the same time and stop having this lost references issue?
Cris.
When adding a row in a defined table, my formula does not replicate down to the new row. Why?
I'm using Excel 2016
I have a worksheet where I have a defined table and when a new row is added by tabbing from the last column/row, the formula for one of the columns does not replicate itself down to the new row.
Does anyone know why and how can I fix this?
The formula in the first row of the table is =z3-AA3. This is because it is the first row. The 'Running Profit' column then should be, after the first row in the table, =AB3+Z4-AA4. This is the formula that should be carried down for all new rows added no matter how the row was added.
Does anyone know how I can do this when the user wants to add a new row to the table?
Also, as you can see in the attached image, formulas in other columns display the error notification when new rows are added. Why does it do this and how can I prevent this when a row is added.

In Excel 2016, cannot refresh Power Query built in Excel 2013
Hello,
I have built a few power queries using Excel 2013 (comm add-in), and when I try to open the queries on another computer with Excel 2016 installed the tables will not refresh.
Is there anything that can be done to allow Excel 2016 to refresh data from a query built in Excel 2013 without having to rewrite the query?
Thank you.

Powerpivot Error on Refresh after update to ProPlus 2016
Hi,
I was using Office 365 2013 ProPlus for months. I have have been using same excel file w/o any problem, which I
Today I have updated to 2016. Just after upfdate, I couldn't update my Data Model.
The message is below;
"We couldn't get data from the data model..."
"An unexpected error occured (file 'pcminorobjcoll.inl', line 115, function 'PCMinorObjectCollection<class PCProperty,class namehashSupport>::SetNameAndUpdateCollection')"
My current Excel version is "16.0.6001.1073"
Excel 2010 not opening specific file (Windows 10 & 7)
Not sure if I can explain this incredibly well via text but I'll give it my best shot.
I currently am running Microsoft Office 2010 and began having an issue in the last 3 weeks or so. When I attempted to download a microsoft excel file it would open Excel, but it would open in a blank screen with no information on it. I thought maybe something was wrong, so I downloaded the file and attempted to open it that way and same issue. I thought maybe Excel was having issues, so I attempted opening a different Excel file on my computer and the other file opened with no problem at all.
I figured maybe something got corrupted so I uninstalled Microsoft Office, and then reinstalled it. After completing the reinstall it was able to open this file and had no problems at all. Everything was working great.
The next morning I attempted to open this excel file again and it went right back to the same issue. I can open the file on any of the other PCs in my location but this one will not open it. If I repair Windows Office it does not fix the issue, but if I do a complete re-install it will fix the issue for about a day.
I am having this issue regardless of what OS is being used on the PC. I'm not entirely sure what could be causing this problem. Unfortunately, the excel spreadsheet that I'm attempting to open is updated everyday with new information and I need to import this every day, so it is not a file I can just ignore.
Edit: The file type I'm attempting to open is a .xls file.
I was hoping maybe somebody could potentially have some information on this.
Thanks,
text-to-Fields failing - how get null for missing values?
I have a table of imported data (from an “external data source” URL web page).
The original data fields (wind reports) look like this: S 16 G 20
Then I extract (copy) a few columns onto another sheet, with entries that look like:
=data!C216 (pointing to the column of imported data).
etc. down the column.
Then I sort those (by another column (dates)), preparing for a graph.
Then I want to separate out the two numeric entries for graphing.
My first try was using the icon for the built-in function for this, but when I run a "text-to-columns" on it, it considers the reference equation as the text, not the data that it points to.
So for example, text-to-columns of this gives me a single entry (treating the formula as a string):
| S 16 G 20 |
as it copies the formula itself and thus shows the same (original) data, when I want it to operate on the string the formula points to:
| S | 16 | G | 20 |
In any case, I prefer to split into fields using an equation, so I don’t have to automate that operation.
So instead using a splitting formula;
=TRIM(MID(SUBSTITUTE($C36," ",REPT(" ",LEN($C36))),((COLUMNS($C36:E36)-1)*LEN($C36))+1,LEN($C36)))
works fine, but for empty entries (from short fields) it puts text “” into a cell, which graphs as zero, instead of a missing data point. Converting to value by test for that, and instead put na() in the cell, instead of zero shows as connected lines on the graph, even though “show empty cells as gaps” is selected (and works, if I delete these cells they are gaps).
PS: This whole thing works fine if I just use the text-to-columns button on the original text field(!).
So guess it comes to, how do I get the splits to be empty (blank) cells for short entries, instead of (“”, or #NA)?
So I guess the simple version of the question is:
"how to split into fields, have known numerics as numbers for plotting, and have missing values be empty".

Retrieving a string of text using Cube functions
I am relatively new to Power Query, Power Pivot so if this has been answered before, forgive me because I could not find it.
I created a power query to compile data from many spreadsheets. The Power Query is loaded as a connection as opposed to loaded into the workbook. The data is there and I can slice and dice it as needed with power pivot so I know the data got imported correctly.
In another part of the workbook I have a worksheet that uses specific values from the power query to do calculations and I only need one specific data point for this calculation. I tried to use the CUBEVALUE Function to get this.
The connection is "ThisWorkbookDataModel"
The Query is called Data_Masters
Originally I tried to get the value by using the following formula:
=CUBEVALUE("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[Data_Masters].[DesiredField]","[Data Masters].[Business].[BusName]","[Data Masters].[Time_Preiod].[TimeValue]") this would only return the value of 1 regardless
After doing some digging, I found that I could easily pull numbers from the query using the following formula
=CUBEVALUE("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[Measures].[Sum ofDesiredField]","[Data Masters].[Business].[BusName]","[Data Masters].[Time_Preiod].[TimeValue]")
where BusName and TimeValue are the actual values to be retrieved
The problem I have is trying to pull data into excel when the value in the Power Query is a text string. So my questions to this board are:
Can the CUBEVALUE can even return a text string?
If not, what should I use?
If so, how would you write the formula and would it actually retrieve the text string assuming the following
For this question
The connection is "ThisWorkbookDataModel"
The Query is called Data_Masters
The field containing the desired text sting to be retrieve is DesiredField4 (i.e. [Data_Masters].[DesiredField4] )
The item can be found with just two parameters
[Data_Masters].[SearchField1].[SearchValue1] and
[Data_Masters].[SearchField2].[SearchValue2]
How to create this IF THEN statement for Excel
I am trying to create an IF THEN statement for a database and cannot seem to figure it out.
I want to say if there is an "s" entered in to column E then the date is 30 days in the future from the date in column F. If there is no "S" in column E then the date is is 30 days in the future from the date in column F.
Essentially if there was an s entered into the row on column E and a date of 1/1/16 in column F, then the date that would automatically populate using this equation would be 3/1/16. if there was no s in column E then the date would be 1/31/16.
Hopefully someone can help me with this--thanks in advance!
Problem with Condition formatting consistency
I'm using conditional formatting to format the first 5 columns of a spreadsheet based on what is in column A.
But for one of the colors, in the upper part of the spreadsheet, only 3 columns are coloring,
and lower in the spreadsheet, only Col A is coloring.
The problem is the same whether I make that rule (The blue one) the first or last rule.
I have removed all shading and other formatting from those rows, and yet the conditional formatting still does not operate on the entire row for the "Blue" filter above. Very odd. (Had images, but it says I can't use them until my account is "Verified" and of course they don't say how you get "verified")
Remove operand from .csv file?
I am downloading my blood pressure file from Microsoft Health Vault. By default it downloads as a .csv file.
I have a 2007 version of Excel. The downloaded file comes in almost unreadable until I reformat. After I reformat I get something like this but with cells.
Date "Systolic "Diastolic
7/13/2016 12:04:52 PM "137 mmHg "67 mmHg
7/13/2016 10:09:54 AM "140 mmHg "72 mmHg
7/12/2016 3:10:11 PM "159 mmHg "80 mmHg
7/12/2016 1:25:20 AM "123 mmHg "63 mmHg
7/11/2016 4:44:26 PM "116 mmHg "54 mmHg
7/11/2016 12:02:01 AM "156 mmHg "80 mmHg
In the worksheet view the columns Systolic and Diastolic are written as "Systolic and "Diastolic, and the entries are "137mmHg etc. I need to separate the numbers from the operand " and the letters but leave the heading so I can use the numbers as numbers to average my BP. I have removed the letters mmHg with search and replace but that does not work for the " . I have manually removed the " on each entry and then I can use the numbers. However with 120 + entries there must be a way to automate the process of removing the " .
Any assistance will be appreciated.

Create dynamic Long Dropdown List
Hie,
So basically i am creating a form which is more or less like a invoice.
There are 4 types of choices from which the user will select, by each selection would give me an another list to choose and so on untill it reaches the last one which is the price, for instance
Type- Stock Range
Description- Swiss csv 1.56 swiss coat
coatings- care
price- 399
so basically, there are few types and under which there are different products of the selected type, once the product is selected it would give me a choice of which coating and then according to which the price would be displayed automatically.
I have tried various things for creating drop down list, but unfortunately the name manager does not include spaces and other chars which are important as the product would be displayed in the bill and cannot be written haphazardly,
Please help if there are any other options which i could take on.
Error Upgrading Power Pivot Data Model to Excel 2016
I am using Excel 2016 and I opened the file named "Contoso Sample DAX Formulas.xlsx" from the Microsoft article titled "QuickStart: Learn DAX Basics in 30 Minutes" and when I selected Manage Data Model I received the first message below followed by the second and then finally the error message below that. Any thoughts on how to fix this situation?

PowerPivot can't open Data Model due to COM Exception
Hi, Everyone.
Hope you can help me on this. I created a data model in PowerPivot 2013 but our Office has been upgraded to 365. Whenever I go to Manage Data Model, it keeps on saying upgrade. Then whenever I upgrade, I can't continue anymore due to the error below:
"Sorry, PowerPivot can't open the Data Model because there was a COM exception while opening. You might be opening a workbook on a corrupt installation of Excel. Click Details for more information."
