Error Bars?

I have been trying to create error bars for my bar chart (horizontal bars) in both the 2013 and 2010 version of excel and I can get neither to work.

My problem is that I am trying to create a box plot diagram (box and whisker diagram) so in all the videos I watched for how to do this you simply select the bottom part of your column that touches the axis, and for the lower error bar, input your value and it gives you a lovely little error bar that starts at the top of that bar, so when you take the fill out of the bottom section to make your box plot diagram, it joins neatly onto the 2nd column. When I to do this however, it puts my minus error bar at the bottom of this bottom bar, which means when I take the fill out there is a massive gap! 

I hope you understand what I mean, and I would love a quick reponse as this is for a university assignment.

Copy and Paste

I am trying to copy Directory listing from File Explorer and would like to be able to paste them into an Excel worksheet. I am running Windows 8.1 and Office 365 home. It updated my old MS Office Pro 2010 to MS Office Pro 2016. I bought an add in for Excel 2010 that allowed me to accomplish this task. Now, my add in won't work with Excel 2016. Does anyone know a work around for this problem?  I tried to contact the individual that I purchased from since it worked before, I guess he hasn't updated to the later versions. I can no longer reach him and haven't found anyone that has a solution. I have contacted several guru's in Excel without success. I haven't written a macro in years and format has changed, so I'm in a bind. I would pay($25) for a solution to this problem.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. I may be able to do it using CMD functions but think it will be a pain in you know what.

Excel error "Cannot use object linking and embedding"

Hi together,

I'm managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. The only additionally installed software is Office 2013.

The DCOM identity for Microsoft Excel is set to a specific user, every time I open Microsoft Excel the error "Cannot use object linking and embedding" occurs.

I tried all suggested solutions, like DCOM config, virus check, folder and file permissions, Excel configuration like DDE, etc.

Does anyone have another idea of how to solve this problem?

Using a "search box" on sheet 1 to search through multiple sheets

Hi,

I'm looking for some help.

I have created a workbook (approx. 20+ sheets) varying in size.  What I'm trying to do is create a search box in which text can be entered so that all cells with that text are listed on sheet 1 with cell information from the various sheets where the search text is found.

NO idea where to start with Macro's etc so I'm really needing an idiots guide.

Any help would be appreciated.

Organize sheets into groups or folders

I am trying to organize an Excel file that has numerous tabs/sheets.  I'd like to group them together so that they show as ONE tab, like a drop down menu or something.  There are so many sheets, it's cumbersome to click through dozens.

Is there any functionality like that?  Or a plugin/script that would accomplish that? 

Searches are just showing me how to group sheets, but it doesn't hide them behind one tab, it still shows all the tabs.

Why does Excel 2010 no longer support html?

When I type my formulas into Excel 2010, on saving, they disappear.

Why does Excel do this? It didn't do this previously.

If it won't work, does anyone know of a spreadsheet programme that I can upload to the web and use more than once?

Conditional Format Rule order

A 'Data Bar' conditional format always appears on top of a 'Top 10' conditional format not matter which order they appear in the CF  Rules Manager dialog. I assume this has something  to do with whether they conflict or not, as mentioned in [1], even though they both affect the cell background. Is there any more detailed information about which conditional formats appear on top of which others?

I need to know to maintain our application that renders ooxml to bitmap and other formats.

Issue with shared file locked for editing open notify.

When some users log on to a file that is shared across the network the file locked for editing message appears. I have identified that it is happening with certain users. The temporary files have been deleted from the shared file directory, but is there another temporary file in the users profile that is cuasing the issue?

Hi All,

We need to know when is the next update for Microsoft  Security  KB3085502 as there many issues with this security update. Could you please let us know when the update would be available? As the recent update has caused serious issues with respect to our usage of SAP IBP addon.

I am using SAP IBP Excel Add-in. Because of this security update, I am facing lot of issues like the graphs are displaying properly. The designed templates for SAP IBP are not working properly. And the columns and headers are not matching.

Could you please let me know when the next update is?

In excel pivot table report filter search box can we use array of values to search? rather than selecting each individual value?

Before the upgrade to windows 10, I was able to have my active x control button a colour blue, it now will not allow me to enter this colour from it's properties, is it possible to change the buttons properties to allow the blue colour to affix to the command button???

Conditional Formatting On Dates In Excell

I have a spreadsheet that has column as as row headings, row 1 as column headings.

in cells b2 to p62 i have dates

i have successfully setup a formula so if any of those date cells are blank the cell is set to a solid red background of ff0000

but what i also want is if any date is any date in the past then i want that date to have a white background with red text.

how do i set this up step by step?

PowerPivot - COM exception while opening...even though I was closing

I am running Office 365 ProPlus 16.0.6001.1038 (64 bit) on Win 10 Pro (64 bit).  I recently upgraded from Office 365 ProPlus 2013 (32 bit) in order to handle larger data sets in PowerPivot data models.

After upgrading several of my files and data models, I was able to open the data models in PowerPivot, refresh data and manipulate my pivot tables and charts.  However, when I would click to save or exit the file without saving I would get the following message:

Sorry, PowerPivot can't open the Data Model because there was a COM exception while opening a workbook on a corrupt installation of Excel.  Click Details for more information.

I have tried the Quick Repair, Full Repair, Uninstall & Reinstall but still get the same results.  Once the issue does happen, if I do not close the file and go into PowerPivot, all of my data models are gone and PP is blank.  Unfortunately I did not realize this the first couple of times and saved my files only to find the data models gone on reopening and only static pivot tables/charts remaining.  My backup files are currently worthless because I can't save them after refreshing without the data models being erased.

I thought it might be related to older files that I upgraded the data models.  However, I created brand new files with new data models only to have the same issue occur.

Please advise as I need to refresh my models and populate dashboards!

Hello,  I have several users that started having an issue last week with excel documents stored on shared folders.  The users are all using Office 2007 standard.  They are saving to different folders with different group permissions on a 2008 r2 file server. There are no events on the server.  They open their spreadsheet, add entries,  save it, close it, and reopen it, the changes are gone.  They don't get any kind of warning when saving.  Unfortunately there are workbooks that work and there are uneffected users too.  Most of the spreadsheets are 2003 version.

Thank you for any help! This is kind of freaking me out because it is so random, not seen anything like it in fifteen years of IT. I am also looking fo anything I can do to troubleshoot this issue.


xml schema not working in excel 2010 - xml corrupt

I originally posted this thread in Microsoft Answers but was suggested to post here...

I upgraded from xl2003 to xl2010. I'm trying to map xml schemas to xl2010 (using the source pane just as I did for xl2003) and the mapping works fine until I save the file and reopen it. Once I reopen the file and try accessing the map through the XML source pane, I get an error identifying the xml map is corrupt as follows:

"The operation cannot be completed because the XML map is corrupt

To fix this problem, remove the associated xml map from the workbook and then add the XML map back to the workbook.

/schecma/element[1][@name = 'returnData']/complextype[1]/complexContent[1]/extension[1]Undefined <complexType>, '{http://www.....' is used as a base type."

I've tried this in xl2007 and it works fine. I also read some blogs about xl2010 xml features and in some I found that this new version has enhanced security xml features.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I recently began using the template on Excel called "Personal expenses calculator." I am having trouble getting the graph in the dashboard to look like the template that they provided. Rather than grouping the dates into months, the graph is listing every single date I have input. How can I group all the dates together by month?

The PivotTable field name is not valid

I have the error come up that "the pivot table field is not valid".

I have checked to make sure that 1) the first row has valid data 2) no merged fields...

but still getting an error message. I use pivots a lot and appreciate an answer to resolve my issue.

Excel 2007 Macro Stopped Working on Windows 8.1

My excel 2007 macro has been running on a Windows 8.1 pro laptop for the past year.

Today when I ran it, nothing seemed to be happening although you could see that the macro was running. I had to stop it.

So I went to the VBA screen and chose to run the macro to the cursor and here again the macro ran but nothing happened and I had to stop it again.

I have other macros for other spreadsheets and they ran without any problems.

These macros usually run 3 to 4 minutes but the one that keeps on failing on the Windows 8.1 machine, I let run in the hope that it would complete the task, but it ran for 34 minutes before I decided to stop it.

I have the same macro that fails on the Windows 8.1 machine, on a Vista machine, and it runs without any issues.

Any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot the windows 8.1 machine.

Excel 2013, 2016 have wrong focus

Starting with the Updates in September 2015, Excel 2013 sometimes gets the focus wrong.  There was another thread on this, and possibly the Nov 2015 updates fixed the issue for 32-bit Excel.  However, it appears it is still an issue for 64-bit.  I checked with a colleague and they still have a focus issue with Excel 2016.  (I'll post the link to the prior thread I found after my account is verified and I am allowed to post links.)

I have a large Add-in that is widely used, and this is a huge problem for me and the users of my Add-in.

Can Microsoft please provide an Update to fix this problem and the expected date of the Update?
