I need to access a file urgently and am told I need the PowerPivot add-in installed. I have Excel 2010.
I followed the instructions at www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29074
I installed .NET, Visual Studio, and the Windows update as instructed. At the same web address above, I click "Download" and select this file: 1033\x86\PowerPivot_for_Excel_x86.msi. (I have also tried the 64 bit version and get the same result as below).
The file downloads and is visible on the download bar at the bottom of Chrome. I double click the file and for about 1 second it says "Opening" and then it disappears, nothing else happens, and no installation starts.
I have also tried downloading and installing from Internet Explorer and it does not work. A download pop-up opens for about 1 second and then disappears. Nothing else.
To summarize, in Chrome it appears the file downloads successfully but the installation process will not initialize. In Explorer, the download never even starts/completes.
My machine:
Pentium dual core 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM
Vista Home Premium 64 bit
MS Office Professional plus 32 bit
