Pivot Table Sort

Hi,

I'm having trouble getting a pivot table into the right sort order.

I start with  a range that is sorted  by date,  with three columns as follows:

 item |  value | date

The pivot table I'm looking for is "items"  as row labels,  and "dates" as column headers.  I can get it to do that,  but it re sorts "items" alphabetically,  whereas I need them to stay in date order as they orignally were in the source range.  I've read similar posted questions,  but I don't think they apply to this scenario / layout.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.  I'm a novice excel user so hopefully there's a relatively simple way of doing this.

Many Thanks,

PS,  the values are numerical with the "average" being represented.   It turns out that only the "whole" numbers are displaying their average, whereas numbers with decimal (such as 7.1) show as an error message (#DIV/0!).   Advice on solving that would also be much appreciated.   Thanks
