I have some word documents that are embedded in Excel spreadsheets. When I double click I get this message "cannot start the source application for this object".
- Office 2013 on other computers open these word 2010 files
- Office 2011 on a Mac also open these word 2010 files
- I can open word 2003 and 2013 files embedded in the spreadsheet
- I can open powerpoint 2010 files embedded in the spreadsheet
- I can open pdf files embedded in the spreadsheet

What I tried so far, but didn't work: (restarted after the uninstall and after the reinstall)
- In Excel and in Word: Options -> Trust Center -> Trust Center Settings -> File Block Settings -> Restore Defaults
- Applied 2 Microsoft Hot Fixes
- Uninstalled from Control Panel -> Programs and then reinstalled
- Used Microsoft tool "Fix it" to uninstall Office 2013 and then reinstalled
- Uninstalled from Control Panel -> Programs, renamed folders in Appdata and Program Files and then reinstalled
Note: after reinstalling Office I still see the list of most recent files I opened in Excel...I suspect the uninstall is not removing it completely.
