Display time logs which have different intervals

I have 2 files, each of which contains a column of trend data.  Each trend was sampled differently; one was at 2 second intervals & the other at the change of value of a variable, therefore pretty much random.  How can I put these columns next to each other on a sheet, and have the time line up?  I don't need the row entry times to match, for example it's ok if one column shows a blank at the sample time of the other.  Any help here will be greatly appreciated.
