In Excel 2010 I have a pivot table that uses Access as an external data source. If I add more fields to the data source and use the Pivot Table Wizard to get back to the datasource so that I can add the new fields (columns) to my Pivot Table, Excel crashes
if the Pivot Table has calculated fields. If there are no calculated fields, then it seems to work ok. In 2007 this problem does not exist.
One workaround that I have tried that works is to create a new Pivot Table with the additional fields. Copy the Command Text in the Property Connection Definition to the original pivot table's Command Text. This preserves the calculated fields, whereas if you changed the Connection to the new pivot tables connection string the calculated fields would be lost.
