Problem with Excel 2010 pivot table using ODBC datasource and parameters

Hello, I asked this question over at the Office forum (answers.microsoft.com), and they recommended asking here. So here goes:

I have an Excel 2010 worksheet accessing a PostgreSQL database via an ODBC datasource. I'm passing four parameters to the SQL query out of the sheet. I would like to obtain the parameters via cell references. This works initially; however, if I save the sheet, exit, reopen the sheet, and refresh the data, Excel crashes every time. I discovered that if I enter the parameters manually instead of using the cell references Excel doesn't crash, so it seems to be happening in connection with the parameters.

I really would like to get the parameters to the query automatically and not be prompted every time. I tried using named cells instead of a direct cell reference, but that doesn't work, apparently it's not possible to use named cells in this context.

Has anyone else had this problem? I (and a colleague) can reproduce it 100%; I would be happy to upload the event logs.

Thanks,

John
