I recently came across this particular issue when sorting Excel worksheets. I have a workbook that has
5 very large tabs with over 50,000 rows in each tab and up to 1500 columns of text and numerical data (no formulas, no hyperlinks, just data). When sorting the tabs, I noticed in task manager that the Working Set size of Excel grows with each sort that is
done until Excel responds with a message:
"Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications."
This occurs after sorting several of the tabs. Is there some fundamental limit to the number of rows/columns that Excel can sort? BTW, this same error occurs if I try to do the sorting with a macro.
